The droplet shaped design at the base of this bottle stopper moves the weight closer to the bottom of the bottle reducing the tendency to be top heavy. This stopper sits lower so that the turned wood sits closer to the top of your bottle. The flexible silicone ring will accommodate wine bottle openings from 5/8" to 7/8" in diameter. All of these stoppers are slightly less than 2" in diameter.
To make these stoppers, I pair a base wood with a disk of contrasting endgrain or exotic wood. The top is then turned to a gracefully curved cabochon shape shown below. Wood species are listed at the bottom of the photo.
I harvest my own end grain stock from small fallen limbs and shrub prunings. My exotic wood is gleaned from the "scrap" cut offs of other wood working shops.
